I really recommend reading this before you go, guegra gives a great, multi-perspective take on the war without being biased and propaganda-y. The memories of everyone from the lowliest infantryman to the highest ranking strategic commanders and politicians are recorded in this book. For a history class this is what you want to read because his it has in-depth interviews about the war.
After completing the book, I was left with a sense of how wrong this war was and how little we are taught i One of the best historical accounts of a war I’ve ever read. It is the only non-fiction volume I have come across which provides the perspective of the Vietnamese, both Commmunists and the South Vietnamese government. Three times as many American bombs were dropped on Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia than during the entire Second World War, and millions of acres of forest were destroyed by chemicals like Agent Orange.
